After placing an order, the the RNZAF arranged a stopgap loan of 17 Canberra B.2s and 3 T.4s to fulfill it's commitments to the Commonwealth Strategic Reserve with all surviving  aircraft returned to the RAF in 1962.

By that time the RNZAF had received its own aircraft comprising 11 B(I).12 attack aircraft and two T.13 trainers.

The B(I).12 was a B(I).8 with an autopilot and extra navigation equipment. The first aircraft in the order was a converted RAF B(I).8 (NZ6101 ex WT329) and the other ten were new build airframes.

The T.13s were effectively T.4s, with an autopilot and an additional fuel tank fitted in the weapons bay. There one built new (NZ6151), the other (NZ6152 ex WE190) refurbished from RAF stocks.

In 1970, the eight surviving B(I).12 and the two T.13s were sold to India (where the trainers were again referred to as T.4s in Indian Service).
