Disappeared on a machine gunning exercise off the Taranaki coast on 23 October 1942. Extensive searches at the time failed to reveal any sign of the aircraft or it's crew. Pilot Officer Rodney Dandy, Sergeant Graham Martin, Sergeant Edward Dodson and Sergeant Douglas Martyn killed. The wreckage was discovered about 2000 feet up Mount Egmont on 17 January 1974 by a Forest Service hunter. It is believed that the aircraft flew into the valley in bad weather before crashing into the bush. The remains of the crew were recovered by RNZAF Iroquois. Parts of the aircraft were later recovered and are now on display at the Taranaki Aviation, Transport, and Technology Museum. |
