Pratt and Whitney Twin Wasp S3C4-G#108 and #113. 02/06/43 Rec 1OTU ex 1AD. 1625hrs 09/10/43 When on a low flying exercise when on recovery of a low level dive over Lakes Entrance waters, the tailplane of the aircraft struck the water causing the aircraft to stall and force land on the water on a sand bank, there after sinking in 7 feet of water. Coded UV-T. 13/09/43 Issued 13ARD ex 8 Sqn RAAF. 19/09/43 Rec 8 Sqn RAAF ex 13ARD.  1822hrs 08/01/44 took off from Vivigani Strip, Goodenough Island, when a/c detailed to carry out a bombing attack on Lakuhai Aerodrome in the Rabaul Area. During flight, at 1915hrs, the starboard motor coughed four times, then picked up until 1930hrs when it started to run roughly, then at 1936hrs started backfiring at an altitude of 8000 feet at location 06º 44' South/162º 09' East, some 120 nautical miles from Kiriwina. A/c now on port engine with bombs being already jettisoned, with the starboard engine having seized at 1948hrs and airscrew feathered, the a/c diverted to Kiriwina. Some 180 gallons of fuel in the outer fuel tanks jettisoned. The a/c was still losing height and so at 1955hrs the crew were ordered to jettison approximately 1000lb of ancillary equipment to lighten the load which arrested the height loss. The a/c landed without any further issues on the Sia Aerodrome at Kiriwina without any further damage. The navigation aids were rendered unserviceable and on return to base, the a/c ran short of fuel before locating base an d was ditched in Collingwood Bay at 2430hrs. Crew: Pilot: F/Lt Alonzo Pearce Wymond Serv#416476, Nav(B) F/Lt Alfred Barrie Blackstone Serv#412887, WAGs F/Sgt Gordon Edwin Walters Serv#433657 and F/Sgt Maxwell Thomas Williams  Serv#433420 suffered minor injuries, managed to get out of the aircraft and into their dinghy. They were rescued by a native dugout canoe which towed them back to the shore. The following morning, they were met by a large outrigger canoe that had set out from Tufi, a small remote ANGAU base. Pratt and Whitney Twin Wasp S3C4-G#116 and #128. 02/06/43 Rec 1OTU ex 1AD. 0815hrs 13/09/43 some 3 miles southeast of the East Sale Runway during a circuit, the a/c was seen to bunt violently at 1000 feet, before diving almost vertical into a swamp and explode. TTHRs 164.35hrs. Crew*: Pilot under instruction: Sgt Leslie Lloyd Giles Serv#417633 and Instructor Pilot: F/Lt Geoffrey Norman Reeve Serv#401081 were killed. 01/10/43 Write off per File#09/16/1085 Minute #1 dated 16/09/43. The a/c apparently struck the sea and disappeared. A9-305 Mk VIII 22/05/43 Rec 1AD ex DAP. 09/06/43 Rec 1OTU ex 1AD. 0900hrs 10/08/43 whilst doing circuits around East Sale, Vic, when on approach again, the pilot noticed smoke coming from the starboard nacelle. After operating the fixed fire extinguishers in flight, one landing  the nacelle again caught fire until the Duty Fire tender arrived and extinguished the fire. Crew: Pilot under instruction: F/Sgt Allan Keith Morrell Serv#7246, Instructor Pilot: F/O Arthur John Sharp Serv#402140, and passenger Sgt Trevor Abraham Lipman Serv#20050 were not injured. Repaired in Unit. 1935hrs 27/08/45 crashed after taking off from Mt Gambier for East Sale, during a T.E. 18 training exercise (cross country) in accordance with 1OTU Beaufort Transport Flying Training Syllabus when at 4000 feet a/c crashed in 60 º dive into the ground and burned near Puralka, some 18 miles east of Mount Gambier SA. (T) Exercise seaward from Sale for Trach:  Base-Paynesville-38º10' South /148º 10'East -Hogan Island Group-Rodono Island- Cape Rodion- Pyramid-Yarram- Base. After several position reports, the a/c was not heard of again until the wreck was found. A/c was found crashed and burned position on 24/08/43: 38º 33' 20" South/146º 22'40" near Mount Best near Toora VIC. A/c appeared to have struck ground in a spin or steep turn to starboard in fog.
